Resources for Homeschoolers

Homeschooling families have unique challenges when it comes to math.  Not every parent is a mathematician.  Not every textbook offers enough explanation.  Not every textbook offers the connections that students need to see the bigger picture, and understand where it fits into the "whole."Book_Overload.jpg (10489 bytes)

We have resources to help.

The most significant challenge for all those learning and teaching math today is to deepen the learning.  Our students aren't seeing how the pieces fit, aren't seeing the connections between the topics, aren't building a foundation deep and solid enough to support the glorious richness and complexity they will find in their years of studying mathematics.

Instead, they're learning math as a series of procedures, and no one, no one, can remember that many procedures without seeing how they connect, where they came from and why, what they're used for, and what they lead to.  Not to mention the fact that math learned this way is so dull and oppressive that it drives most students away from a subject they could love, and use - in ways they never dreamed of.

This need is behind all of our work at NewtonsWindow, and all of our products.  What may seem like a simple activity in our Math Bags, or in our Math Magazine, or on the website, is there for a purpose - to help students connect the learning, to build the bigger picture, and to deepen their foundation to support the great things that are coming.

And the fact is, we applaud parents who choose to home-school, for the myriad reasons they choose to take on such an important task.   We have resources for you, and are adding more in the coming weeks.  And we are anxious to hear from you.  Tell us what you need.
